How to Read Tarot: A Beginner’s Workshop

$55 per person | Tarot deck included

What if the cards aren’t here to tell you what’s going to happen, but to help you hear what you already know?

Tarot has been used for centuries as a way of making meaning through image, symbol, and story. In this two-hour beginner workshop, we’ll explore the cards not as a tool for fortune telling, but as a way to get curious, ask better questions, and tap into your own intuitive wisdom.

We’ll start by getting to know the traditional 78-card tarot deck: the Major and Minor Arcana, the four suits, and the symbols and archetypes that give the cards their meaning. Then we’ll move beyond memorizing definitions and learn how to actually read the cards: noticing what draws your attention, finding connections between cards, and allowing a story to emerge.

We’ll practice together using simple spreads and real questions, with plenty of time to play with the cards and discover what resonates with you. There is no single “right” interpretation and no special gift required. Tarot is a language, and this afternoon is about learning enough of it to begin having your own conversation with the cards.

Every participant will receive a traditional 78-card Rider-Waite tarot deck to work with during the workshop and take home afterward.

No experience necessary. Just bring your curiosity.

About Your Guide

Jesse Janelle is a writer, TEDx speaker, certified coach, tarot reader, and founder of Willowdale Bookshop. Her work has long explored intuition, self-trust, and the ways we make meaning from our experiences. She approaches tarot as an extension of that work: not as a way to predict the future, but as a tool for reflection, curiosity, and uncovering the wisdom we already carry. Her TEDx talk, From Panic to Presence, similarly explores what can happen when we learn to trust ourselves a little more deeply.
